need to take him to the doctor for.

A few simple behaviors your child does could be Autism Signs,
take a quick look at the Autism Symptoms Checklist. If you suspect
that your child might be delayed in normal child development, then
it is time to make a doctor's appointment. Using the "wait and see"
approach is the worst thing you could do, it could cost you very
precious and valuable time you could have with your child.
Early intervention is the key to a good start in the world of Autism.
Getting answers from your doctor is essential but thinking that
your pediatrician is an expert on the subject matter
of Autism and thinking he is the one stop fix is not going to cut it!
The truth is you will have different doctors, and therapists
that are trained in specific areas to assist with certain problems.
I have spent many hours sitting at the doctors office waiting on
all the answers to my questions, often time leaving without
any of them answered.
I have learned more from other parents of autistic children
because as parents we have more knowledge on our children
that anyone else because we are living it!
Autism complications are as unique as each child
that is diagnosed with it. Complications are a wide
spectrum with many disorders that
can come side by side with Autism.
For instance my son's sensory integration disorder
and Pica Eating Disorder where the two
complications that truly compounded
his Autism.
I know now that my son would have become verbal earlier if we had
gotten his Pica under control. Pica delayed his speech by putting more
of his focus on what he was putting in his mouth instead of working
on what was supposed to be coming out. Delayed Speech and lack
of communication was impacting his behaviors, leading to frustration
, meltdowns, and pure chaos! His Stimming was keeping him from be
able to sit still and maintain attention because of his sensory
integration and this prevented him from being able to truly focus
on anything to learn.
Hind sight is twenty twenty as the saying goes, I have learned many
lessons after the fact! If I could go back before his Autism diagnosis
and with the knowledge that I have now, I don't think my child's
prognosis would be where he is now. My attitude and response to
most of the autistic traits and behaviors in my son caused it to
deepen its grip on him.
I was truly in a war to pull my son out
of it while all the while not objectively noticing the things I was
doing to push him further into it.
